The Legend of
Black Hills Gold

Black Hills, South Dakota
According to one account of the legend, French goldsmith Henri LeBeau arrived in the Black Hills during the 1876 gold rush with ambitions of making his fortune. After months of fruitless searching, quite starved, thirsty, and near death he, one day, fell asleep near a large tree. His dreams were filled with beautiful images of grape vines and a mountain stream reminiscent of his homeland.
When Henri woke from the deep sleep he made his way a bit and stumbled on a stream and grape vines much like he'd seen in his dream. Nourished by the grapes, he bent to scoop water from the stream and was rewarded with several gold nuggets. Driven by his thankfulness for being given a second chance at life, he dedicated his time to creating gold jewelry depicting leaf and grape clusters in hues of yellow, rose, and green.
